Scaddabush: Italian Cuisine

Scaddabush is located at 209 Rathburn Rd at Square One, the heart of the city. This rustic Italian eatery has stylish decor pieces, an open kitchen, and an island where staff prepare pizza and other goods up close. The restaurant is all about the atmosphere that it tries very hard to maintain. Servers are allowed to have their long tresses out, despite the obvious threat that may pose. You are sure to see servers rocking the 'man-bun,' as well as an attractive Asian fella with full sleeves and chest of tattoos. It all comes together to create the critical atmosphere Scaddabush depends on to get customer back in their doors. The restaurant just feels like a place one wants to be. But when you grade those layers away like mozzarella, you start to see the restaurant for what it is, over exaggerated. The menu itself as well as "my" server were eager to talk about the in-house made mozzarella and pasta. However the al-day al-dente is not some thing that will suit all. For those who do not know what al-dente means, it is pasta that is still quite hard compared to Canadian standards. The Parmesan had less flavour than Parmesan found in the grocery store for six dollars. And the much hyped in-house made mozzarella had no taste and had the texture of rubber. That being said, the food was not extraordinary. It was also rather odd that "my" server did not actually serve me- anything buy a cheque. The waitress took the order and proceeded to not serve the appe

tizer, nor did she serve the pasta and grade the mozzarella on top, and of course she did not serve the beer when that was ordered. The warming connection between diner and server was not established and left the experience feeling rather cold. It just felt like a bunch of individuals doing their jobs, rather than hosts doing their best to -host. Scaddabush overall gets a 6/10 for their bad food and less than mediocre hospitality.
