Montana's Cookhouse: ...A restaurant falling off?

Montana's is one of those barbeque joints found in every town in virtually North America. They rave about their ribs, wings, and steak. Montana's is a Canada-wide chain, maybe surprising considering its American name. First off, the ribs. Montana's ribs are my favourite, or at least they were. They were always perfectly tender smoked ribs with a delicious Texan sauce. This has changed however as the past two times I went the ribs were chewy, gross. The chicken wings are mediocre - enough said. Now I'm sorry to disappoint you steak lovers, but I have to admit that I'm not one of you. And neither are the people that I dine with. So I cannot review the steak, I apologize. But I can say that if you do want steak from a reputable cookhouse, you should stick to Montana's or Longhorn Steakhouse. Finally the french fries. They're delicious. Unlike most generic fries that only have salt, these fries are perfectly seasoned with ingredients I cannot even fathom. Montana's is more expensive than Swiss Chalet, but  Montana's rib sauce is still superior. Given the fact that the last two times I had Montana's it was not tender, I would recommend avoiding the Eglington location or just going to Swiss Chalet or Longhorn. Maybe Jack Astor's if you just want a burger.

Jack Astor's is a large restaurant chain boasting affordable pub fare and a large bar, and the Square One location was nothing above and beyond in terms of the food, you can expect the typical greasy burger with your pint of Rolling Rock, nothing surprising here. That being said the service was absolutely breathtaking, I sat at the bar between classes for a little liquid encouragement before my next class and was greeted by Brian who approached with a smile and asked my name and even shook my hand, he was prepared to offer another drink the moment I finished my first and didn't pass judgement on the fact that is was only 4pm.
